There are 91 days until the 2018 Rose Parade. Double digits! Rose Parade fun fact of the week: This year, the Tournament of Roses estimates that it will take a combined 80,000 man hours by 935 member volunteers to pull off the parade and other related events!

Bridgerland Band Invitational Results

Thank you to everyone for your patience and flexibility as we dealt with the weather for the Bridgerland competition over the weekend. Lightning forced the evacuation of the stadium at the time we would have been eating dinner and all bands had to take shelter in their buses. Several bands left at that point and the 4A classification was cancelled per competition rules. The competition was halted for over an hour before starting up again with the remaining bands still performing in wind and rain.

Hopefully students and staff took the opportunity to rest and rejuvenate and spend time with family. We are excited to get back out on the field this week to prepare for our competition this coming weekend.

 

Saturday (Oct 7) Wasatch Marching Band Competition Schedule

This saturday, October 7, we are competing at the Wasatch Marching Band Competition at Herriman High School. Here is the schedule for this week’s competition.

  • 12:00 PM – Rehearse
  • 3:00 PM – Load trailer
  • 4:30 PM – Buses depart
  • 5:00 PM – Arrive at Herriman HS, unload trailer, restrooms
  • 6:00 PM – Watch Copper Hills HS perform
  • 6:15 PM – Eat dinner
  • 7:55 PM – Warm up (area A)
  • 9:00 PM – Perform
  • 9:30 PM – Awards
  • After awards – Load trailer
  • 11:00 PM – Depart for Westlake
  • 11:30 PM – Arrive at Westlake, unload trailer

Parents who are helping to load the trailer, please be at the Westlake band room by 2:45 PM on Saturday.

 

Competition Food Sign-Up

The sign-up sheet for food donations for the BYU (October 10) and Davis HS (October 14) competitions is now available at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e044daeaf23a13-byucompetition. Please follow the link and read the description carefully before signing up.

There are two different drop-off dates since this sign-up sheet covers two competitions. Please pay careful attention to the times specified for each item. If you need to arrange a different time, contact Becky Barney.

Small Trailer Needed for St. George Trip

We are looking for a small trailer that the Barneys could borrow to take to St. George to carry and provide food for the band. We have access to the band trailer, but it is much larger than is needed, so we are trying to find something more appropriately sized. If you have access to a small enclosed trailer that you would be willing to loan for that purpose, please contact Becky Barney at beckybarney6@gmail.com.

 

Concert Reports

The end of term is approaching and the due date for concert reports is October 13. All students in Concert, Symphonic, Wind Symphony, and Jazz Band classes are required to complete a concert report.

We understand that it can be hard to find concert experiences that do not conflict with rehearsals and performances, so we wanted to let you know about a couple of concerts that are coming up.

Concert, Symphonic, and Wind Symphony students have two concert options coming up. Wasatch Winds is performing TONIGHT at 7:30 PM at American Fork High School. The other is the UVU Wind Symphony on Monday, October 9, at 7:30 PM at the UVU Ragan Theater.

Jazz Band students, there is a Jazz Legacy Dixieland Band performance at the BYU Madsen Recital Hall on Thursday, October 12, at 7:30 PM. Please note the report is due the next day so you will have to write it that evening.
