Clothing Drive and Pancake Breakfast Results
We want to give a huge THANK YOU to all of the parents and students who came out to support our fundraisers this weekend. We had two successful fundraisers on Saturday and couldn’t have done this without your help.
We hit our fundraising goal for the pancake breakfast, raising $1,500 before expenses to go toward feeding the marching band at competitions We also received a matching funds donation of $1,000 from Modern Woodmen for this fundraiser, bringing the total earned to $2,500. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped make this fundraiser successful and thank you to Modern Woodmen for the generous matching donation!
The clothing fundraiser was also successful. The band semi trailer was 80% full before Saturday and we filled the fundraiser trailer about 2/3 full on Saturday. We transferred enough clothing to the fundraiser trailer to fill it and it has been collected and is on its way. We are working with the fundraising company to make arrangements to get a trailer for the clothing this is still in the band trailer, so …
Clothing Still Being Accepted for Clothing Drive Fundraiser
At the end of the fundraiser on Saturday, we had collected about 1½ trailers full of donated clothing. While we are waiting for a second trailer to come pick up the remaining items, we can continue to gather clothing.
If you missed the clothing drop and have bags of clothing to be dropped off or if you did not participate and would like to do so now, we can continue to accept clothing donations until the second trailer arrives from the fundraising company. We will have someone at the trailer this evening (Monday, April 17) from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM to accept clothing donations. Once we know when the second trailer is coming, we will announce the final date for dropping off clothing donations.
If you have clothing to donate but aren’t able to come at a designated drop-off time, please do not leave bags by the truck unattended. Contact Charlotte Ducos (cdducos@gmail.com) to make arrangements for someone to meet you at the trailer.
Our goal for this fundraiser was to fill two full trailers. We have about half a trailer to go, so let’s make one last push to fill our band trailer back up. Thank you for all your hard work!
URGENT: Rose Parade Fan Package Orders
Parents who wanted to order a fan package for the Rose Parade tour should have completed those orders by Friday, April 14. The fan package includes tickets to the Rose Parade, bandfest, and to Disneyland for our parade performance there. If you need to order a fan package, please contact Bob Rogers Travel immediately to take care of this.
Color Guard Clinics and Auditions This Week
Color guard auditions for the 2017–18 season are this week. Clinics will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM on both Wednesday, April 19, and Thursday, April 20. Auditions will be held on Friday, April 21, from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Everyone is welcome and no experience is necessary. If you are still debating whether you want to participate in the Rose Parade, we still have space!
Please come in comfortable athletic attire that you can move in. We are looking for talented individuals for the fall marching band show, Rose Parade, and winter guard.
Ninth Grade School to School Form
Beginning with the 2017–18 school year, all ninth grade students in marching band (including color guard) will be automatically enrolled in the marching band class and will need to fill out a school-to-school form to give the middle school students permission to participate in practices and events at Westlake High School. The marching band “class” does not take place during the school day and will not affect the student’s schedule.
If your student is a ninth grade student participating in the fall marching band season, please complete the school-to-school form attached to this email and following the instructions for submitting it. This form must be completed for all ninth grade students prior to the beginning of classes in the fall.
Marching Band Physical Forms
Marching band physical forms should be submitted using RegisterMyAthlete by May 31. There is a $15 physical event on June 1, so if you need to take advantage of that, you may do that but it would need to be uploaded right away if you do. Otherwise, get your physicals completed and uploaded as quickly as possible.
Please remember when turning in your physical the preferred submission is:
- Upload directly to registermyathlete.com all pages, completed
- Email to whsathletics@alpinedistrict.org
- As a last resort, Sharon Mardesich can scan them in for you, but please realize she can get very busy during the day. Call ahead for her availability.
Marching Band Step-Off Meeting
The marching band step-off meeting is on Tuesday, May 2, at 7:00 PM in the Westlake auditorium. Students can come between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM to be sized for shoes, polo shirts, and gloves. All parents and students should plan to attend this mandatory meeting, which will cover important information about the upcoming marching band season and Rose Parade tour.
Marching Band Show Shirts
We will soon be ordering show shirts for the coming season. On Tuesday, April 18, we need ALL band members (color guard and instrumental) to log in to RegisterMyAthlete and verify that they have the correct shirt size listed. Those who were unable to choose size small when they originally registered will be able to correct that selection on Tuesday. Thank you for taking care of this on Tuesday.
Student show shirts are included as part of the marching band fees. Parents who would like to purchase a show shirt will have the opportunity to do s, but there is no obligation. Show shirts will be white with the 2018 Rose Parade “Making A Difference” poster design on the front. The cost will be $16. Watch for the order link coming soon.
State Festival Transportation Help
On May 5 or 6 (we do not have our assigned day and time yet), we will again be looking for a parent who can help out for Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony to travel to state festival.
We are grateful to have received offers from parents to ride the bus with the band for this trip. The preferred option is for Mr. Mangelson to ride with the band, so we are putting out a request one more time to see if anyone is able to pull the trailer so that Mr. Mangelson can be on the bus with the students.
Please contact Charlotte Ducos (cdducos@gmail.com) if you are able to help. Thank you in advance for helping out.
Sausage Available
We have some bags of sausage left over from the pancake breakfast fundraiser and would love to sell the excess to anyone who would like a bag. If you would like a bag of pre-cooked sausage links (50 links and $5 per bag) please contact Becky Barney (beckybarney6@gmail.com) with how many you would like.
Rose Parade Visit
On May 19 and 20, Lance Tibbetts, president of the Rose Parade, will be in town to visit the band and to help us raise awareness and money for our trip.
On Friday, May 19, we will be having a “Cool School of the Week” presentation with Fox 13. Please watch for information that will be coming, we will need the students to participate in this! On the morning of Saturday, May 20, we will be participating in service projects to go along with the parade theme of Making a Difference and there will be a fundraising dinner that night.
More details will be coming, but please put those dates on your calendar and plan to be involved that weekend.
